Harlem’s own A$AP Rocky releases his debut album “Long. Live. A$AP,” after gaining creditability for his mixtape released released“Live. Love. A$ap”, fans hunger for more,  patiently waited on his debut release. “Long. Live. A$AP.” was released Jan. 15, 2013; despite being leaked a month early.
The album features SchoolBoy Q, Santigold, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Joey Badass and others,  notable Producers include Noah “40” Shebib, Skrillex, Hit-Boy and other high profile producers.
Southern Hip Hop mixed with pop beats that create a sound of his own influences Rocky’s music. He is inspired by legends UGK and Bone Thugs N Harmony, which influence his lyrical ability by creating his own sound, Rocky has also been influenced by groups Nirvana and Pink Floyd.
Lead singles “Goldie” and “F**kin Problem” are killing the airwaves as we speak, they show that Rocky is not a one hit wonder and can keep the party going. Rocky shows his lyrical ability on songs such as “1 Train” with others such as Action Bronson, Joey Bada$$, Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown and others Rocky holds his ground with these hip hop heavyweights; if you never thought he was good before, you will after this song.
A$ap Rocky continues to amaze me. Since his mixtape “Live. Love. ASAP” he has grown from a rapper to an artist. Not just through his lyrics but his music. In today’s genre of music, it is very hard to define yourself as an artist and standout from others, your influences become your own and you’re considered a copy. Rocky has not only taken notes from the ones who came before him, but he has mastered his craft and made himself into a household name.
On the mixtape, Rocky gave you a brief introduction to his style. But on the album, he had introduced the world to his sound and what defines him as an artist, newcomers welcome.
To me personally what stands out the most on this album is his music, without a doubt Rocky has an ear when it comes to picking beats. Lyrical wise Rocky just doesn’t have one flow, which is a big plus with me as well. This album will introduce the world to A$AP Rocky if you don’t know who he is by now. You either love or Hate Rocky but he just keeps on gaining success on what he has built.
For  new fans I suggest you listen to his older stuff first, before listening to his album, then you’ll get a better understanding of his movement and why he is the next artist to watch.
