It has been my pleasure being Editor in Chief this semester, but I have to say goodbye. I am graduating from NCC next month and I wanted to express my gratitude to all of you before I hand the paper to the next editor.
It has been an incredible journey taking on the responsibility of running the student newspaper, but I would not change a thing. Each problem and hurdle has taught me so much about how a paper is run and how to manage a large and dedicated team.
I was touched when reading Peter Beutel’s article, “A Way to Say Thank You,” because we don’t often get to publicly show our appreciation to the people who mean something to us. I am also lucky to have had a family of support at my time at NCC, which has been my only home since coming to America.
I would like to thank Stoney Duren for believing in my career and pushing me from day one, and Deborah Golden who has mentored me through countless math questions, not just when I was in her class two years ago, but even today I may be found confused in her office while she assures me that I can succeed. Thank you to Carol Randel, who has taught me that it was okay to have down days and it’s okay to ask for help; to AJ O’Connell for her guidance and support and always replying to my panicked emails regarding the paper. Last but not least, thank you to Susan Steiz for making me realize that dreams are possible and that with a little patience and hope, the right things will happen. Her passion for my success and care for my future is the reason that I’m proud to be attending Manhattanville College in the fall.
Thank you to the talented, hardworking Voice staff. What an amazing job each of you has done this semester. I am proud to have worked with you all, and as a team, I know we are very proud to publish our work for the NCC community.
Thank you to you, the readers, I hope you will continue to enjoy the paper and thank you for your support and encouragement along the way.
Enjoy your summer and wherever next semester takes you!
